How to Use This Book

This book progressively builds a character, with each chapter adding a new element. But the chapters aren't interdependent, with the exception of Chapter 8—you can work through chapters out of order. The material covered in each chapter is as follows:

Chapter 1, “Character Skeletons,” introduces you to the main character of the book. You'll review his geometry and build him a basic joint skeleton. The geometry is then weighted to the skeleton.

Chapter 2, “Face Rigging,” describes each muscle used in human expression and speech. You'll model muscles and convert them to nCloth. You'll then rig them using dynamic simulation tools and connect them to each other via constraints.
