CHAPTER 3

Hair

Geometry and texture go a long way toward make a character look real. But man or beast, those two elements alone won't suffice when completing a photorealistic character. It's the secondary details that complete the look. The next three chapters delve into the creation and management of bodily functions.

This chapter focuses on hair. Not all hair—only hair of a longer length. The longer the hair, the more control you need. Maya Hair uses dynamic curves with an adjustable point density. Attached to the curve is a Paint Effects brush with an abundance of attributes to define the rendered look of the hair.

In this chapter you will learn to:

  • Undestand the basics of human and digital hair
  • Grow hair
  • Cut hair
  • Style hair
  • Color hair
