Other Built-in Components in the Extension Manager

Joomla users often use components but sometimes don’t even realize it because they think all components are shown in the Components menu. Not so. To see the full list of installed components, go to Extensions→Install/Uninstall and click the Components subsection. Let’s review each component:

Content Page

This is by far the most important component in Joomla. This component manages all aspects of articles. When looking at an article on your site, you may have noticed a component identified as com_content in the address bar. More information on this component can be found in Chapters 5 and 6.

Cache Manager

Cache Manager provides a way for you to delete and purge cached files. More information on this component can be found in Chapter 16.

Configuration Manager

Also known as the Global Configuration, it contains settings that affect your website from a global perspective. More information on this component can be found in Chapter 4.

Control Panel

When you first log in to the backend, the Control Panel consists of the large icons on the left and the Administrator Modules on the right (shown in Figure 3-1 in Chapter 3). More information on this component can be found in Chapter 3.

Installation Manager

The Installation Manager is used to install and uninstall extensions. More information on this component can be found in Chapter 15.
