CREATING CATEGORIES

Creating categories is a similar process to creating sections. Make sure you're logged into the back end of Joomla (see Lesson 5 for instructions). Then either click the icon for the Category Manager or select Content Category Manager, as shown in Figure 8-1. Either method will take you to the same place.

Once you've arrived at the Category Manager, you should see a screen similar to that shown in Figure 8-2. If you installed the sample data for Joomla, you will see categories listed here.

If you refer back to Table 6-1 showing the site map for the Fictitious Elementary School website, we've already established which categories and sections are associated with each piece of content. We've created the sections, so now we need to create the matching categories.

In the About section of the website, four categories need to be created: About, History, Mission, and Faculty. Let's create the History category first. To do this, click the New button in the upper-right corner of the Category Manager. You will see a screen similar to the one shown in Figure 8-3.
