Microsoft, an early advocate of XML, was one of the first companies to create a real-world XML vocabulary, which it incorporated into its Internet Explorer Web browser. The Channel Definition Format (CDF) is an XML vocabulary that defines channels, which are hierarchies of Web pages that can be updated automatically. CDF makes it possible for users to subscribe to channels and then receive notifications or automatic updates whenever content in a channel changes.
