Active Channels Basics

Microsoft's Active Channels technology was unveiled in Internet Explorer 4.0, and it remains an important part of Internet Explorer 5.0. The main premise behind Active Channels is that it is inconvenient for users to have to get updated information from a Web site. Most users have a few targeted sites that they visit regularly. It would be more convenient if the user was notified when new content was available on those sites. Active Channels let users subscribe to these sites as channels and then receive updates automatically.
