As you know, one of the strongest benefits of XML is adding context to information. News is one type of information in particular that could benefit greatly from context. In the past, news has consisted solely of text that tells a particular story and simply states the facts. XML introduces the possibility of blending additional markup into news stories to establish context. For example, it would be possible to call out names and locations with specialized markup so that Florence, Alabama (the city) is distinguishable from Florence Henderson (the actress).
