Understanding XMLNews
Like any information that is transferred electronically, news must be stored in a standardized format so that news agencies can share it with clients. You've probably heard of news being delivered over "the wire." Although "the wire" has changed somewhat over the years, the actual format of news has not. The aging standard for news was called ANPA 1312, and it played a vital role in news delivery by providing a way for wire services to consistently transmit stories to newspapers. It also kept track of the typographic markup used to describe the look of the stories. In general, all North American wire services and wire collection software relied on ANPA 1312 as the standard for news representation.
