This chapter details how to map XML Schema simple types to a relational database. Representing simple types is fairly straightforward but requires some consideration of design and implementation trade-offs. This chapter loosely follows Chapter 10 and builds on its examples. This chapter also builds on Chapter 22, which covers the database implementation of XML built-in datatypes and their constraining facets.
