Creating a database schema representation of an XML schema document is fairly straightforward but requires some knowledge of the database column datatypes and Oracle PL/SQL functions. In addition, the following portions of the XML schema document were not translated in Listing 23.4:

  • There is no translation of the id attribute into the database schema.

  • There is no easy general programmatic enforcement of the final attribute. An XML schema processor would have already accomplished this. Otherwise, it needs to be done manually by the database designer.

  • The language of the documentation annotation was specified as ‘en’, but the database column documentation does not reflect this.
