Use Windows Update

Windows Update is available in Control Panel’s Security section. Updates are software patches to the operating system, the Microsoft Office system, and even the drivers installed on your computer. Some updates are critical, meaning they need to be installed for the computer to run properly and to remain secure. Some updates are options and do not have to be installed if you don’t want to install them. (Of course, you can turn off Windows Update completely, but that is not recommended.)

Verify or Change Windows Update Settings

When Windows Update is on, which it is by default, you get to choose how you want updates to be downloaded and installed. Figure 14-5 shows the Windows Update options.
