Use the Windows Experience Index

If you’re not sure what you have and how it will run Media Center, Microsoft has come up with a set of tools to test your system. With them, you can see what sort of power it has and where you might want to upgrade. It’s called the Windows Experience Index. This index can tell you pretty much anything you need to know about your computer, and it even applies a rating to your current hardware setup.

To see the scores Windows Vista has applied to your system, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start in Windows Vista.

  2. Click Control Panel.

  3. Using the Control Panel Home view, select System And Maintenance.

  4. Click System.

Your score will appear under System Rating, as shown in Figure 5-1.
