Chapter 20. Managing Storage

The need for storage has increased dramatically in recent years, putting ever-increasing stress on the system administrator, whose job it is to provide adequate storage at a reasonable cost. Fortunately, the cost of hard disk space has plummeted while the capacity of drives has increased. With the increase in the availability of Storage Area Networks (SANs) and Network Attached Storage (NAS), system administrators can now centralize and rationalize storage more effectively across the network, helping to eliminate much of the waste associated with local storage.
