Server Core

We have mentioned Server Core a few times so far. It is a stripped-down version of Windows Server 2008 that has no graphical user interface and supports only a subset of roles and features. The user interface on Server Core is simply a command line, as shown in Figure 11-2.

Server Core is not a separate version in and of itself, but rather an installation option during setup. After you type your product key you get to choose whether you want to install the full version or the Server Core version of the edition you purchased. The selection dialog box is shown in Figure 11-3.
