8.9. Conclusion

This chapter contains an example of network communication arrangement possible in Windows 2000. It uses threads in a number of different ways, and you may therefore want to review Chapter 6 for more information on this topic.

Chapter 9 presents Remote Procedure Calls, or RPCs. RPCs automatically work in a client/server fashion and hide most of the network details, so you may want to use them to automate the process of creating client/server applications.

Serial communication over modems is another way for Windows machines to talk to one other. Chapter 11 discusses this topic.
