What to share
Of the many configuration files on a UNIX system, only a subset can be usefully shared among machines. The most commonly shared files are listed in Table 18.1.

Most server-based systems are set up to work with only these and perhaps a few additional files. You can sometimes distribute additional files of your own choosing, but since the system software won’t automatically make use of them, that feature is most useful for sharing local files.
