Finding Programs and Files

In the past, Ubuntu used a system of menus to guide users in searching for programs, but now there is an easier, faster way. Use the Dash to find programs. You access the Dash by clicking the Ubuntu logo at the upper left of the screen. This brings up the menu shown in Figure 1.6. Start typing in the Search box to find specific programs or documents on your system. The icons in the row along the bottom of the Dash provide categories you can use to narrow searches. When you click the house icon you go to the main Dash screen as shown in the figure.
