Appendix A. The Connected Boomer

Unlike their predecessors, boomers are relatively comfortable with technology and the Internet. They’ve experienced the online revolution at work and, like other working-age groups, they have taken the technology home with them. Today, in the United States, 66% of people between the ages of 50 and 64 are online—that’s 33.2 million people. Boomers online in the U.K., Germany, and Japan are also growing in numbers.[1] These numbers are expected to grow steadily as the younger boomers who are even more plugged in turn 50; by 2008 it is estimated that 40.7 million boomers—73.7%—will be officially wired.
