Chapter 12. Event-Driven Interaction Patterns

In the previous chapters we examined four different ways in which two parties might interact, but without asking why they were interacting. For the In-Out and Out-In patterns, the reason is obvious (Figure 12-1a): One party is sending a request to the other and expecting a response. For the In-Only and Out-Only interactions, however, there are two possibilities. The first is that one party is sending a request to the other (Figure 12-1b). The second is that one party is simply sending a notification of some kind to the other (Figure 12-1c).
