The idea for this book traces back to 2000, when Clayton Christensen and Mark Johnson cofounded Innosight to help companies use the research findings that Christensen had summarized in his best-selling book, The Innovator’s Dilemma.

At first, much of our work at Innosight involved heavy doses of trial-and-error experimentation. Repeated experiments with forward-thinking clients resulted in crisper patterns and defined approaches. This book summarizes this fieldwork in a way that we hope helps practitioners inside companies improve their ability to create growth through innovation.
