Adding Fine Detail

So far, you haven’t used a photo reference while making the perspective drawing because you’ve been blocking in the large forms. Now that you have the shapes, you can refer to other castles for distinctive details.

One reference used in this painting is a photo of St. Vitus Cathedral, a beautiful gothic structure in Prague (Figure 5-21). The imposing edifice has the sort of spiky towers that will add some spice to the project. You can find the photo on the Chapter 5 DVD materials, in the file St_Vitus.jpg. Display this photo to one side on your monitor as reference, but don’t use it directly by copying it into the composition at this point.
