6.3 STRENGTH OF A SOLID CIRCULAR SHAFT

Maximum torque or horse power that can be transmitted by a shaft is referred to as the strength of a shaft.

Let a circular shaft subjected to a torque T be considered and let an elemental ring of area dA be taken (Figure 6.2). Then
