SOLVED PROBLEM 12.11

Determine the forces in the truss shown in Figure 12.50. It carries a horizontal load of 16 kN and vertical load of 24 kN (Anna Univ., June 2007, ME).

Solution:

1. Supported reactions

   The truss is supported on rollers at B and hence the reaction at B (R_B) must be normal to the roller base, i.e., vertical (Figure 12.51).
