Chapter 47. Administering Reports with Reporting Services

In This Chapter

  • Deploying Reporting Services reports

  • Configuring Reporting Services using the Report Manager application

Reporting Services 2005 contains an ASP.NET web application called the Report Manager. The Report Manager application provides the tools required to administer the report server and deploy items, including reports, shared data sources, and data models. The Report Manager also provides the interface for users to access, manage, and execute reports. The default URL for the Report Manager is http://localhost/reports. Figure 47-1 shows the Report Manager application.

This chapter explains how to deploy reports and administer the report server using the Report Manager application shown in Figure 47-1. It includes three strategies for report deployment, including Visual Studio 2005, the Report Manager, and deploying reports programmatically using the Reporting Services Web Service. This chapter also introduces the Report Builder tool, which enables end users to create their own reports.

The Report Manager comes with Reporting Services 2005. It enables users to access, execute, and manage reports; and enables administrators to deploy reports, and manage security and report server configuration.
