Windows Server 2012 Server Manager

Windows Server 2012 has a new look for Server Manager, and some changes to the way it runs. By default, when a user who is a member of the Administrators group logs in, Server Manager starts. To open it from the Start screen, simply click on Server Manager, as shown in Figure 4.1. From the desktop, click Server Manager on the taskbar. If Show Administrative Tools is disabled on a system, Server Manager will not show on the Start screen.

Naturally, you wouldn't want to install IIS 8.0 if you don't need it, but the number of applications that require IIS and ASP.NET is growing continually. So, even if you're not configuring a “web server,” you may very well need IIS 8.0 on the server just for the applications you intend to run. This is especially true if you intend to run many Microsoft products, such as Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL Server, or Microsoft System Center.

IIS 8.0 can be installed on an existing Windows Server 2012 system without the need for additional files or media. In the following examples, the first installation is the bare default with no additional features. Then we'll install popular additional features and roles that are commonly installed but would not be installed in a default IIS 8.0 installation.
