Get the Identity of the Profile Service Application

Scenario/Problem: You need to find the identity of the Profile Service Application.

Solution: Use the Get-SPServiceApplication cmdlet.

To get a specific instance of a metadata service application, you need the identity of the service application. The Set-SPProfileServiceApplication cmdlet requires an Identity parameter, but no Get-SPProfileServiceApplication cmdlet exists. Therefore, you need to use the Get-SPServiceApplication cmdlet to display all service applications and find the User Profile Service. Listing 14.1 shows the command line without any parameters.
