25. Disk Utility

In This Chapter

Disk Utility is a utility application for working with disks and volumes. As discussed in Chapter 8, a disk is a storage device and a volume is a part of a disk formatted for storing files.

Disk Utility can:

• Provide general information about a disk or volume.

• Verify and repair a disk or volume.

• Erase a selected disk or volume.

• Divide a disk into several volumes or partitions.

• Create disk images.

• Mount a disk image as a disk.

• Burn a disk image to CD or DVD.

• Set up a RAID disk.
