Performing Calculations in Excel Worksheets

Excel provides you with two different possibilities for doing calculations in your worksheets: formulas and functions. Formulas are do-it-yourself math. You specify the cells to be referenced in the calculation and you also provide the operators, which determine what kinds of calculations actually take place. Formulas are best reserved for simple calculations, such as subtraction, multiplication, and division. Figure 13.1 shows a subtraction formula that subtracts the payment to the instructor (G10) from the Tuition Total for that class (D10).
