My Day

This new Entourage outpost lets you keep an eye on your most urgent project elements—your current schedule and To Do items—without opening or even launching Entourage. You don’t have to confront your full calendar, your entire To Do List, or your email, giving you a fighting chance at concentrating on today’s tasks without getting sucked into the e-maelstrom.

My Day is a mini-application that acts like a Mac OS X Widget emigrated from the Dashboard to the desktop. The small My Day window provides a quick view of your day’s schedule and To Do List from Entourage (even if Entourage isn’t running).

The top section of the My Day window shows scheduled events; the bottom section shows To Do items and icons showing the type of the item and whether it’s past-due (Figure 11-18). Click the date display at the top to open the Go To Date window and jump to a different date. You can also use the left and right arrow buttons to move day by day, or click the button between the arrows to come back to today. Buttons at the bottom of the window let you create a new To Do item, print today’s schedule and To Dos, and open the My Day preferences window.

When you install Office 2008, My Day adds itself to your logon items and automatically appears in the upper-right corner of your screen. If you’d rather it not appear unbidden, choose My Day → Preferences → General and turn off “Open after computer logon” (Figure 11-19).
