Chapter 20. INITIALIZATION FILES

Initialization files (often called INI files because their common file extension is .INI) are sequential text files that are used for storing system configuration data. Initialization files are the most common method of storing configuration data in text files. INI files allow applications to store configuration data separately from that of other applications. Also, using INI files, an application may logically group related settings.

The Win32 API fully supports the initialization file functions. However, it is recommended (and even required for logo compliance) that Win32 applications store their configuration data in the system registry (see Chapter 19, "The Registry" ). These functions are still very useful ...
