Chapter 19. THE REGISTRY

The registry is the database where configuration information is stored in the Win32 environment. The registry is a better solution than the initialization files used in Windows 3.x because all the configuration information is stored in a single file. It also is able to store multiple types of data, has the benefit of being searchable, and is easier to edit with the help of the registry editor.

The registry also supports networking and lets individual users store preferences, so applications can customize the user interface for the current user.
