Understanding the Hierarchy

The Site Server is the core component in the Configuration Manager hierarchy. The Site Server role manages the other roles that facilitate the different areas of client systems management, such as content provisioning and asset management. Site Servers can be configured in a hierarchical model. This parent/child relationship can be grown both horizontally and vertically for a high degree of scalability.

A multilevel Configuration Manager hierarchy is shown in Figure 2.1.
