Chapter 5. Setting estimates

After the tasks are entered in the schedule to create the Work Breakdown Structure, the next step is to estimate task durations and work values. Duration is defined as the length of time a task will take to complete. Work is defined as the amount of work (number of hours of effort) it will take to complete the task. For each detail task, you should consider whether it’s best to estimate the duration or the work, or both. Estimating these values correctly is not easy and will result in many adjustments until the values are right for the project.
