Managed Properties

There are two types of solutions: managed and unmanaged. Unmanaged solutions are the ones that are used for development, whereas the managed solutions are the ones used for distribution. These are explained later in this chapter in the section “Best Practices when working with Solutions.”

Each component on an unmanaged solution has some properties called managed properties that depend on the component type selected. These properties enable you to specify the ability you want to give to the end users when the solution is exported as managed and then imported to another organization.

Figure 18.10 shows the managed properties you can set on a custom entity when the Managed Properties button is selected on the toolbar.
