The Decision-Making Model for Meetings

Perhaps the most important goal that you can achieve in problem-solving meetings is a full consensus by all of the participants. Without full consensus, there will be a natural tendency for people to withhold their support for the decision and actively sabotage the decision because they do not agree with it.

There are three levels in the process of developing consensus.

Encourage Openness

The first level is open discussion. When you go through the problem-solving process, as discussed in Chapter 7, you invite input and ideas from everyone. Each person is required and encouraged to contribute input to the discussion.
