Hosting Your Own Websites

Outside the built-in website that Lion Server creates, you can host your own websites, whether they're for internal use only or being served to the Internet. If you have a site that is for internal use, you can easily limit access to the members of a group account.

imageLion Server replaced the MySQL database software with PostgreSQL (www.postgresql.org). If you're migrating a database-backed site that used MySQL (such as one from Snow Leopard Server), you'll have to make the switch.

As with other services in Lion Server, you use the Server app to configure and manage your website. To turn on web service, open the Server app and click Web in the sidebar. The window shown in Figure 13-10 appears. As with other services, you turn web services on and off with the big switch.

If you've turned wiki services on, you'll see it listed here. It's described by your server's fully qualified domain name (server.example.net) along with the default location on the server hard drive (/Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/Default). In the lower right corner is a link called View Server Web Site. Clicking this link takes you to the server-created home page.
