ACCESSING THE ARTICLE MANAGER OPTIONS

Suppose you don't want an author's name appearing with any of the articles on your website. Most websites don't display author names on most of the pages. Or perhaps you want to remove created and modified dates. (The modified date reflects the most recent date that the article was edited. If an article has never been edited, this date shows as “Not Modified”).

Fortunately, Joomla has an interface that enables you to specify these kinds of details. In the Article Manager, in the upper-right corner, you'll see an icon for Parameters. Click this icon, and you should see a window similar to the one shown in Figure 11-12 appear.

Roll your mouse over each item's label to see a full description of each setting. In general, I like to use the default settings, with the author name, created date and time, and modified date and time options set to hide. I also like to hide the PDF icon, because I don't find it terribly useful to make a PDF version of an article. (The other two icons, for creating a printer-friendly version of an article or e-mailing an article to a friend, are very useful, however.)

Click the Save button at the top of the screen and look at the front end of the website. You'll notice our design has tightened up quite a bit, as shown in Figure 11-13.
