B.1. Background on the Fresnel equations used in Section 2.2

In Section 2.2, we established three Fresnel equations. These three come from the standard Maxwell’s equations boundary condition

which, in the situation being modeled, implies tangential electric field components must be preserved at each boundary. Here ξ is the electric field and B the magnetic field density. With the polarization assumed, imposing this condition at the three boundaries leads to the three equations given in Section 2.2.
