Working with the Zero Point

The zero point is the place at which the zeros on the horizontal and vertical rulers intersect (Figure 6.1). The rulers begin measuring from wherever it is located. By default, the zero point is located at the top-left corner of each spread in a document. You can change its location by moving it, which is useful for taking measurements from different positions in a layout.

Tip

You can lock the zero point to prevent it from being relocated. To lock or unlock the zero point, right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Mac OS) the zero point of the rulers and then choose Lock Zero Point or Unlock Zero Point from the context menu.
