In terms of stress singularity solutions at the crack tip location, Reissner plate theory is more reasonable than Kirchhoff plate theory. However, in the larger domain including the crack tip, the two theories each have their individual dominant areas. A series of works by Hui (1993) and Viz (1995) showed that Reissner plate theory is dominant in the domain very close to the crack tip (r < h); in the domain far away from the crack tip (h<raimage), Kirchhoff plate theory dominates, as shown in Figure 6.5.
