Name

DOLLAR

Synopsis

Use DOLLAR to convert a number to a currency value with the specified number of decimal places. When you use this function the format of the cell is actually text.

Note

The only difference between using DOLLAR and the Format Cells command is that the results of this function have a text format whereas the Format Cells command returns a numeric value. It doesn’t matter which method you use when working with other functions because the function will automatically convert the text value to a number in order to perform calculations.

To Calculate

=DOLLAR(Number, Decimals)

The Number argument is required for this function but the Decimals argument is optional.

Example

Figure 18-3 illustrates how to use DOLLAR to convert a numeric value into a currency value with two decimal places. The example also shows how FIXED is used to round a numeric value to the specified number of decimal places and add commas.
