Synopsis

Use CODE to determine the numeric code for the first character in a text string. The codes that are returned are based upon the operating system of your computer and the specific font selected for the cell. For example, a Macintosh computer uses a different code set than a computer running Microsoft Windows.

Example

Figure 18-1 illustrates how to use CODE to determine the numeric code for the first character in the specified string. In the example, the function looks at the string in cell E2 and returns a value of 67 which is the numeric code for the letter “C” in the currently selected font.
