File Properties

Synopsis

The File Properties option keeps track of the file size and location information, who created the file, when the file was last modified, etc. This information is available on five different tabs as shown in Figure 3-11.

General Tab

The General tab provides information about the file, such as filename, location, size, when the file was created, when it was last accessed, and attributes such as being read-only. The information that displays on this tab is read-only and cannot be modified.

Note

If you want to change one of the attributes listed for the file, run Windows Explorer, locate the desired file and select the File Properties option. You will be able to change the attributes for the file (Read-only, Archive, Compressed, and Hidden) by clicking on the desired checkboxes. You can select any of the checkboxes, with the exception of the System checkbox; which is used to indicate files required by your operating system. The Read-only attribute makes the file read-only so it cannot be modified or deleted. If you select the Hidden attribute, you must know the exact name of the file in order to open it; the file will not be listed when you view the contents of the folder.

Summary Tab
