3.1 Review of shear stress and strain

In order to study the theory of torsion it is necessary to review the fundamental properties of shear stress and strain. We looked at this subject in Chapter 1 but we present it again here in just a little more depth, since shear stress and strain result when shafts are subject to torsion.
