Backstage Preparation: Capturing the Key Shots Before the “I Do’s”

The photos of backstage preparation begin the moment you arrive on the scene. In this section I outline the important pictures to take during this time, such as the bride getting ready, the dress and details, the groom getting ready, the bouquet, invitations and wedding program, and the wedding party en route to the ceremony site.

tip.eps Though tradition says that a couple shouldn’t see each other before the ceremony, more and more couples are choosing to have a First Look before the ceremony so that all the formal portraits can be taken before the wedding starts. For a complete list of portraits, check out Chapter 8.

Photographing the bride before the ceremony

I love the shots of the bride getting ready. They’re some of my favorite photos to take during any given wedding day. You can feel and even capture in pictures the great energy around the bride as she gets her hair and makeup done while surrounded by her closest friends. As you find out in the following sections, this segment of the wedding day also allows for a lot of creativity as you find fun ways to arrange the wedding dress, shoes, and other details.
