This chapter is intended to get you thinking about the kinds of pictures you can take and to give you a prompt on those days you can't think of an idea. Like writing prompts, they're intentionally vague so that you can use the idea in a variety of creative ways.

You are not expected to re-create the example photograph (although you may, of course), but you can use it with the text as a jump-off point for your own original ideas.

  1. Put a pair of sunglasses in a bright spot where they can reflect something interesting, and take a picture from a slightly to-the-side angle (see Figure 9-1). Place them on top of an interesting textured surface like the dash of your car, and place them so they throw a shadow into the frame. This same idea is good with any curved reflective surface like a car door mirror or a garden sphere.

  2. Take a macro (close-up) photograph of rain or water drops on something with a rough texture such as a leaf or a piece of grainy leather (see Figure 9-2). Water drops are natural magnifying ...
