The end goal of this book is to teach and guide the reader through the increasingly large topic of Web application development using ASP.NET 2.0. The true beginning of this end then is to introduce ASP.NET in a reasonably manageable fashion. This chapter begins this journey by answering the question, “Why ASP.NET?” That is, it explains why ASP.NET was developed and examines the advantages it provides.
