Risk management is the process of assessing risk and applying mechanisms to reduce, mitigate, or manage risks to the information assets. Risk management is not about creating a totally secure environment. Its purpose is to identify where risks exist, the probability that the risks could occur, the damage that could be caused, and the costs of securing the environment.
