Unified Fabric

Cisco UCS utilizes a Unified Fabric to interconnect all components within a UCS domain. The Unified Fabric has a profound impact on structured cabling requirements within a server rack(s). Its single point of management within a UCS system, combined with running Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), is the key to this reduction. Furthermore, as mentioned earlier, Cisco UCS is one unified system; it does not impose management requirements chassis-by-chassis or rackmount server-by-server, as all other vendors do. Figure 13-8 shows the unification within Cisco UCS.
