As stated earlier, self-service provisioning aims to enable and empower the end users to solve their own IT problems, thus freeing up IT personnel from performing the most commonly requested tasks. A self-service application or portal is an important aspect of this new paradigm. The self-service portal should hide the complexity involved in performing the provisioning tasks, while providing a simple interface to the user. In many ways, it is a pretty wrapper that abstracts and hides complex and involved processes.
